Unfortunately the boats leaving Amble Harbour, led by Bobs old boat "Warlord" where unable to venture far from shore due to the lazy northerly swell and the threat of worse weather to come. The weather did worsen with an hour and a half to go as a really nasty squall forced the boats to head for port, those boats who chose to go south having a very bumpy ride back in a lifting sea. As the tired, drenched and bedraggled anglers brought their fish to the scales it was obvious that although there had been plenty of fish there would not be any real big fish. Being a heaviest fish comp there was a trickle of 2-4lb cod weighed in, with Sean Davison raising the stakes with a cracking Pollock of 6lb 1oz 12 drams. Then young Philip Ward fishing in the junior section came to the scales, having already taken a personal best cod of 3lb 7oz on one drop, on his very next he took a Pollock of 5lb 5oz 4 drams, fishing aboard "Warlord" With this catch came the news that a few better cod had been taken on the "Warlord" which proved the case as a few 4-6lb fish came to the scales with news of a bigger fish to come. And so it was with Robert Nesbitt of Ashington winner of the event in 2006 coming to the scales with a fine cod of 9lb 9oz 4drams. Robert did have a few anxious moments when the anglers aboard "Charlotte" the last ones to get to the scales with some very big Pollock. However Robert relaxed as the biggest taken by Walter Turnbull weighed 7lb 10oz 4drams, for second place, followed by Kevin "Fluff" Anderson with one of 7lb 3oz, Kevin also took the heaviest flatfish, followed by Joe Riley with one of 6lb 6oz 12 drams, with Paul Conroy next with one of 6lb 2oz.
