Hi all,
Any ideas going along fine with 20hp evinrude , when suddenly lost power and seemed to be running on one cylinder.. !! ![]() Limped into cullercoats, and while having a look and restarting pull cord snapped ![]() ![]() End of day !!!!! If pull snapped at sea would be stuffed ( maybe a lesson to learn here ) Where did it go wrong (maybe getting out of bed ) Any thoughts on engine appreciated and I know I should really carry a spare engine , but what size do you think for 15 grp /small cabin boats thanks Dave |

I've got a 5hp aux on the back of my 16.5ft boat , I'd hate to have to use it in any sort of dodgy weather though , it's in a really awkward position to start use and steer with from in side the boat. I really should practice using it , but when the conditions are good enough to go to sea all I really want to do is fish
![]() I think the first priority should be the most reliable main engine you can afford , rather than looking for an auxilliary in case an unreliable main engine fails ![]() Other than that anything has to be better than nothing as a back up power unit . Ray |

Guess not many people know much about outboards !! Think it may have been bad fuel and also going to alter oil mix from 100.1 to 50.1 , cant do much harm,, Prob will change spark plug leads to , once I can find somewhere that sells them . Dave |

defo the wrong oil. look for 'TCW3' on the oil.
the only outboards that would work in would be air cooled ones I'd guess not 100% certain of the mix, but think it should be 50:1, the only motors of that age that were 100:1 were yam's. will have look see if I can find out more |
