Default Geet Big muckle cable

Major Major disaster nearly beset us......

'someone' had tucked away a wee remote relay as an isolator for the batteries -dual pole affair, littel switch to throw it tucked away under the helm, sort of 'immobiliser' I guess, sound idea except.......

the thing is (was) rated at 25amps. Engine cranking power (according to the book) 225A

so a wee bit underated.

so ... one night last week the relay fails, melts and goes short circuit... that is short circuit to a bank of batteries rated at 600Ah, effectively creating an electric fire element giving 7.2Kw of heat!!

all the big battery/starter cables totally and utterly torched. how the thing didn't catch fire beats me, especially as the offending wiring was tucked neatly underneath 200 gallons of diesel in a nice oily wooden boat

terrifying prospect, if it had gone up, don't think there's be many boats left in St Petes if it had either

so need to source some new cables, need maybe 10 metres of cable, Heavy Duty battery starter type cable

any ideas where in the north east anyone??

seen a few sources online, but its not cheap!

You could try Norland cables next to St James, aint been for years so not even sure if they are still there.

There was a geet a big reel of 70SQ mm stuff in the yard at work, I liberated some for Shady but unfortunately it's disappeared, probs summit to do with the price of copper.

Try giving Fork truck dealers a ring. They might be able to help you out.

you seem to know your stuff regarding electrics and cable/isolators.
maybe the 16/25mm meter tails for the db may be appropriate.al not bore with load etc as you know your stuff.maybe this cable has slipped your mind.copper is double now with china buying all we have so not cheap but these meter cables are good for supply and should withstand the sort of thing you are looking to rectify.should that not meet the needs/elements then you may have to look at heat/fire resistent cable with the current capacity of the needs you specify.newey and eyre in blyth have the supply contacts and maybe able to help.think of it like a house its better to be over protected than under.best of luck.
