I'm not sure they do day tickets these days since the Allendale estate took Bywell back. You can rent it by the week though, although
a week in September will cost you £6600 + VAT. (That is for four rods though in case anyone thinks it's a
complete rip-off!)
Compared to that, the Northumbrian Anglers Federation is practically giving it away at £30 per day.
There are a few cheaper bits though. There's Tyne Green, which is about a fiver a day, as is the Wylam AC water, I believe (tickets from Spar). There's even a very small free stretch at Corbridge, although I've never quite figured out exactly where it is. Another cheap way of getting on the river is to join Four in One AC, which for £22 a year gets you Tyne Green as well as the club's small stretch at Wylam.
Like Mark said though, it's a bloody great big river and possibly not the most straightforward for the beginner. Maybe I'm just speaking for myself, but I've been fly-fishing a couple of years now and I wouldn't know where the hell to start with most of the Tyne. I'd maybe think about the Derwent or the Wear instead while you find your feet.
