seen a thread on here where will powel says o to 200 yards is a novice .is this with 0.28 and 125gm lead .at one time if you cast 200 yards with 0.35 line you were considered a master.is these light weights and thin line diameter destroying casting . i like to read the results of the tournaments and you see joe bloggs cast say 260 yads with 125 and 0.28 line .someone else throws 259 with 150 or 175 who is the true winner. i just wish they left it all at 0.35 line you could still chuck 125 gm with 0.35 then you would no who is chucking the best and is the true winner

I'll have a little experiment at NESA on Sunday I'll cast all the weights on .35, then on the current diameters and see what the difference is!
Should be fun, (until i have to cast the 175!) ![]() Distance casting to me is getting the most distance I can from any weight. I think the 75g and 50g are just fun weights because any one of the main 4 (100g 125g 150g 175g) will outcast any of the little uns, and the big uns 200g to 280g on any day! ![]() We'll see what happens!

![]() A true representation of what happened above would be if he had chucked the 125 on .35 not .28 like you say. Tourney casting is not fishing at the end of the day, so choose what lead you want to get further!

another example of light lines casting a lot further .an old timer uses a alvey reel and interlines his rods he as cast 240 with this set up .however if he tries 0.35 he cant get past 170 yards. he explained to me the light line acts like a crack off less resistance = casting further. so my own experimenting is the light line goes a lot further so why allow it use 0.35 for all weights then you will see who comes first in a tournament

I never even denied it that light lines will cast further, it's a physical fact that a thin line will cast further without question!
On the day, everybody casts there lead using the same diameters of line on each, so it's equal for all casting that weight! We could have 1 lead 1 weight days and that would determine who is the winner. I would find that a bit boring and probs duck the biggest ones through not standing a cat in hells chance!

yes, light lines cast further. but then again which line you use at tournies is down to the individual, provided they use the correct size weight and the correct diametre shockleader as laid down in the club rules.
this is the way things have evolved over the years, and most tournie casters are quite happy with it. .for fishing which is a totally different thing i use lines with breaking strains between 8lb b/s and 25lb b/s, but also use shockleaders according to the weight i,m using. i dont cast the bigger leads because i dont feel confident or strong enough to do so, -- i have,nt tried the very small leads because i,ve been told by very experienced casters that they can knock the crap out of you. we could talk about inter-line rods and alvey reels till the cows come home, but tackle has also evolved and improved over the years.. the only other point is, that in certain weather conditions , the lighter leads cast further than the heavier ones , whereas in other conditions the heavier leads go better. i hope this explains thing for you, because i,m getting cramp in my fingers. |

old chukka you say most tournament casters are happy with the rule .i dont think so most of the casters from yesteryear have displayed there disgust in this by not going to any tournaments any more .at one time any one using light line was branded a cheat and personally its a ridiculous rule to bring in . go back to 0.35 for all weights is the only way to get some of these top casters back into the sport and find out who is the true winner at the tournaments

Bullet, if all are using the same line, then what are you scared of?
Someone might be better than yourself? All are using the same diameter for the same weight??? ![]() ![]() ![]() Equal for all and personall choice comes into it! You can cast these weights on on the stated diameters same as everybody else, your not told you have to cast them on .35? ![]() Like i said, i'll chuck them all on .35 this weekend at NESA, why not come down and try yourself!
