ňAny decisions on the possible angling ban? Two of the life guards at Roker said yesterday it's looking likely that a ban is going to be imposed.I thought they where initially looking at a membership similar to Seaham.I know it's not ideal but if it stops the idiots then its better than responsible anglers being penalised.I was assaulted last summer when I asked two lads to stop swearing and throwing racial abuse at some poor chap out with his girlfriend.
Tried ringing Sunderland Council about the future but drew a blank.

hey bud--welcome to the site---goodness knows whats going to happen to the pier regarding fishing and visitors, and certainly life guards who are only here for the summer season(and a fine job they do) aint going to know the score.everyone has their opinions and ideas, and some are just pure rsoles spreading crap--trying to get in touch with the council is a good idea--getting a honest answer-well good luck with that bud

Welcome to the forum mate.i hope you phoned the cops when you were asaulted by the low life scum who use the pier in summer for drinking n drugs use n makeing the place look like a **** house.i cant see how sunderland council can make a membershio scheme like seaham pier because sunderland pier is a public pier n there for everyone to use but seaham is private as confined in the docks area thats why membership was intoduced and money goes towards upkeep of the pier.the recent carparking charges at roker makes you wonder what the hell sunderland council are doing.quite a few new shops have opened at sea front and theres a few cafes asweell.there takeings must be affected by the new parking charge.i no of quite afew lads who now go to seaham pier fishing because its 35 quid a yearto join n no carparking charges.if i go to roker once a week fishing for a year it will cost me over 150 to park my car.seaham 35 quid all in.wake up sunderland council your takeing money out of your own area n sending along to seaham.the council have done alot to roker.new play areas for kids n new cafes n shops n spoiling what you are trying to promote.get your fingers out n get the pier open or at least let the public no whats happening cos at the end of the day its not your pier its everyones pier.torys in disguise springs to mind

        thanks for that,
I did phone the police but these two were on bikes and took off rods & all.Well gone before plod turned up,I required 3 stitches to my lip,my pride was hurt more than me.54yrs old and knocked out by a 20yr old scum bag.Id of been a bit younger they both might of took a swim.Saying that they prob wouldn't of started.
I forgot about the parking charges as I parked round at the Marina (free if you have coffee at the Snow Goose) and had a walk along the front after a cuppa.
I live at Wingate but love fishing Roker, however the scum is only a minority and I've met some real nice anglers on the pier.Im going to pop into Seaham angling club on Friday morning to see if I can get me and the boy on.I know the harbour well as I frequent (retired ) the LookOut cafe most mornings.
I understand the Seaham subs are paid in January but hope you can join anytime.

Its up to the local anglers to complain to their councillors, they won't act unless they are losing votes. But as usual nobody will do anything and just complain on forums and to each other as we lose another venue for sea anglers.

There's were 3 drunken dicks trying to fish on SSP on Sunday, shouting abuse and swearing, the pier was busy with tourists and kids, they had Sunderland accents, the sooner they start the police patrols the better.

couple of year ago police did come to end of pier , trouble is though the p**ss heads and idiots could see them coming down and acted fairly normal till the police had gone , not sure if police still come down as I not fish as much as I used too , mebbe the police should come down in civvies then could see what is going on

I spoke to one of the lads working down there this morning. He said that work was due to complete in December. That's 2017 written off.
