  • Ireland South West Coast

Just came back from a weeks family (and the dog) break in a mint part of the world, the south west coast of Ireland staying in a place called Waterville which is mainly noted for its bass, salmon & sea trout fishing. Took some gear and a bit crab over to get a couple of sessions in.

First session bait fishing: Started at a rough ground spot called the Smugglers fished for an hour then about a dozen French decided to do some surfing right in front of me, wasn't up for killing someone with a sinker so I moved to the bottom of Waterville beach. Got a couple of small bass first half hour nowt for another hour then bang rod went mental, pulled it in fish taking a couple of jumps out of the water then charged at the shore (class) bass 7lb 3 oz.

Next: target pollock, went to Ballinskelligs rocks, ground and conditions looked perfect, nowt just a couple of small ones.

Next: (need a good pollock) Drove down to a well known pollock area called Lambs head. Got there and the wild west wind had also sea was pulling well away, found a spot one chuck sea going wild, climbed back off just too dangerous especially on your own.

Last session: Bass fishing on the lure, went to the mouth of the Inny river nowt, there was half a dozen locals fishing same area most fish on the fly for bass & sea trout couple using lures, speaking to them they said that spot you can fish for a week & get nowt then next day get 20, thats fishing.

All in all great break and location and a PB bass.

Some photos & marks if anyones up for it:

Yeah cheers, landscape changed every few miles golden sand beaches with crystal water then rocks and cliffs then pure mud stinking weed beaches like Waterville which attracts the bass, just wanted to get the rod out all the time but was on a family holiday.
