  • bass on bread

not long back from Lanzarote where I like to do a bit of mullet fishing on light tackle, light telescopic rod, 4lb line and a size 6 hook, was getting a few small mullet when my float shot away, didn't feel like any of the regular fish that you encounter when fishing for mullet, got the fish to the side and it was a schoolie bass which had taken the floating bread. Got a few more small mullet when float went off again, the locals where giving the signal to wind in, they use gear that you can do that, I slowly played the fish and eventually beached it, a decent sized bass of about 2lb. Over the three times I went I had a couple more small bass. Had one frustrating session, got some better sized mullet coming to see what was going on then this guy on a paddle board also came to see what all the swirls and odd splash was, I whistled at him and put my arms out, he waved, smiled and carried on scaring the better fish away.

Good craic Alan, I 've seen it on TV but never had a go, looks so frustrating but excellent sport. Could imagine you with the guy on the paddle board, we are not used to sharing our waters with our users. He may have got the message if he was watching a 6 oz fly passed his head. Good stuff Alan .
