Nice early start this week, down at the quay for 3.0am and headed out about 3.45am, with Bert, Claire, Skull, Les, Stephen and myself onboard. Started close inshore just out the piers and we all picked up a few reasonable cod on the killer crab tipped with squid, Les got a nice cod around the 8lb mark (just a guess Les??). Then headed a bit further out where on one particular wreck Bert gave us all a good lesson in how to use a pirk. He had a norwegian pirk with a white muppet and red one placed over the top (mackem muppet) and hauled in a decent fish every drift including a 10lb cod, a few not much smaller and a nice ling. I finally managed to catch a fish on a ripper, a cod around 6lb, Claire caught a nice cod not far off double figures on crab and Les lost loads of gear
Total catch around 45 Cod, a few coalies and one ling
Great morning, we all managed a few decent fish (not hard when Bert's skippering). It's a great sight to see John the filleter waiting on the quay as you head in, after giving a few fish away, we each ended up with a 10lb bag of nice fillets. Here's the main man in action.
and Claire with a nice cod
Thanks yet again lads & lass!
