Following on from a previous post on another thread, is there a reason why someones sons/daughters shouldn't be able to view NESA through your account?

My daughter regularly looks at the catch reports on here (on my account), and has great pleasure in showing her friends her pics on here when we've been away on holiday.

I dont see why it would be problem with young kids looking in on NESA as i have never seen any bad words or nudies or anything offensive :D :D

Davy this is the statement regarding access to accounts that is contained within the terms and conditions

You are responsible for all statements made and acts that occur through the use of your membership and password. Please don't disclose your password to anybody. If your password has been stolen, you must let us know.

This forum is moderated by a handful of people who do so on a voluntary basis. We are not around all the time and therefore we cant guarantee that your daughter will not come across something that you may not be happy for her to see. We regularly have to remove links to sites and remove jokes that could be considered offensive. I am sure you will agree that we do our best to make sure that everything is ok. Having her own account wouldnt stop her coming across the odd post that slips through till we find it but it does mean that we can ensure that each member is abiding by the rules if they are logged in using their own account. I dont for a minute think that she would post anything untoward but if she did while using your account it would be you that would be held accountable:D:D Tell her to post in her own name - we would love to hear from her :D

Well said Ali. :)

The only other problem I could see would be if one of your mates on here were to pm you a joke or summit similar that you wouldn't want her to see.

Anyone can view the forums without being logged in so she could also view the catch reports as a guest.

Thanks Keith/Ali. She just goes on my account as its always logged on, and to be honest, I never thought about setting up her own account - watch this space!:)

No worries Davy, as a parent the internet is a scary place.

I'm still looking for a decent parental control software package for the bairn's PC.

I did a quick google search and this might be what you're after.
Computer Shopper: Product Reviews: Labs: Parental Control Software: Crawler Parental Controls

Back on topic though, I'm an admin on a torrent site and account sharing can be a real headache for staff. I have seen people banned because someone missused their account.

IMO I wouldn't allow my kids to access any of my forum accounts anymore than I would allow them to access my texts. If they want to access a forum they can access as a guest or as already said you could create an account for them that makes it clear that they are a junior members.

Sorry if this comes across as a newb telling his granny how to suck eggs but I have seen many cases of kids being exposed to pm's or jokes mails that were totally unsuitable :red:

oh no another mark.... that won't confuse peopel, we'll have marc's marks mark's marks and markie's marks soon! welcome aboard!

there is a whole 'other' can of worms that can be opened with 'junior' memberships of forums - ie specific sign ups and acceptance for sub 13 year olds, and thats the whole child protection thing

its a legal nightmare! been through it with a couple of forums that I set up for one of my clients. in the finish it was such a headache for them they just binned the whole thing

just before anyone seriously suggests it here!

".....just before anyone seriously suggests it here!"

Looked into this a few years ago for NESA, Mark...........and ya right - it's a legal nightmare. Like the client you mentioned.................I decided to bin the idea.

On the subject of allowing others to use "your" log-in (even if it's somebody you know well and trust).....it's a def no-no......and can constitute "misuse".

All of the forums on NESA are available to view without logging in.......as has already been said - by allowing somebody else to log-in with "your" details, you are giving them permission to post - permission which is not yours to give, really.

just treat your password like you do your bank PIN code and theres no bother.
if your children are useing the net, then its your responsibilty as parents to make the rules and keep an eye on what they are doing. (i have 4 kids, 4, 10,11 and 13). trust no-one! last week the chief of police of a copenhagen dept. just got caught meeting a 13 y.o. girl he lured on the net! to his surprize the 13.y.o. was a reporter from a national paper under-cover. the net is a dangerous place , anybody could be anybody and i would never let my kids on one of thoughs forums for kids. no-way.

Sorry to go off topic but Davy you need to clear out some of your old pm's because you have exceeded your quota. I have tried to pm you but until you have a clear out I can't send it. I have sent you a reply to your email address.

Once again apologies for going off topic :red:
