I've often fancied trying a chuck from the blocks at the start of Tynemouth pier fishing on to the sand bank in the haven, seem to remember catching the odd flattie there when I was a lad.
That little bay seems to have a surprising number of flounder in it. I ve fished there about half a dozen times with rag/mackerel bait on little hooks and have caught fish every time - usually about 1/2 pound - biggest about 3/4 pound.
It's comfortable. Radio, flask of whisky, 10 Marlboros. Few flatties. Lovely.

might skip the fags like but the rest sounds good to me...was thinking fishing the evening on sunday so the tide is going to be waaaay out (big tides too)...guessing it's a h/w mark
As VIZ once said: "Don't smoke. And if you have to smoke, don't."
(I reckon it fishes throughout the tide, by the way. Casting from the haven rocks opposite the pier is good at low water. The old jetty a couple of hundred yards out which people call the "four posts" is a decent shot for flounder and plaice (summer). On big low-tides you can cast near to it from the shore. If your a good caster you can probably cast beyond it. If your me you can't)
iff you want flattie bashing get your self to the wear
underneath the qeen alaxandra bridge
macky strip/crab/rag or stinky mussel or runnydown in little portions
little hooks with bright beads above
rolling lead not griper
fill your boots
