Been reading sea angler there's an article on gilthead bream. It says there becoming the new bass n moving up into colder waters.

Just wondering has any1 ever caught a Gilthead from uk shores?

I'd never really heard of them b4 until reading this so suspected there not caught this far up just wondering how far up they have been known ATM

They tend to be quite localised, mainly caught in the West Country, Dorset and a couple of marks in the Solent. I've also heard of the odd one or two from Wales among the Black Bream population on the LLyn.

They are more of a warm water species and it will be many years before we see them moving this far north or even in to the north sea - even the Black Bream are rarely caught further east than Hastings / Pevensey at the moment and they are far more numerous than Giltheads. We are much more likely to see the Smoothhound starting to show more regularly up here than Bream and especially not Giltheads.

I had a few off my local beach at Eastney when I lived in Portsmouth, nothing massive but for a small fish they give a hell of a fight
