I fish most weekends from beaches / rocks ranging from Hauxley up to Boulmer and have had a very poor 2024 and winter up till now. Not had a keeper bass or codling ( usually put them back anyway ) blanks saved by the odd coalie or flatty. Highlight of 2024 was a dinnerplate sized Turbot from Warkworth beach and a seatrout ( my first ) the same session, both returned.
Its been quite a bleak 12 months and it seems even quieter at the moment
Hopefully it can only get better. May test that theory this weekend if I can get any bait, even that is hard to find.
Fished Hauxley last night 1 hour down 1 up. Conditions weren't great, freezing wind in your face and quite a big sea on. Got some good fresh lugworm from McDermots Ashington combined with a bit Bluey and managed my first keeper of the winter. Once the tide turned the waves were sweeping up the beach and made things awkward / dangerous especially in the dark by myself so called it early.
Had a few good bites, was going to fish multiple rods and reckon I would have had a few to take home if I had.
Don't usually keep many but this one will be lunch tomorrow.
