Shore vs Boat ?

When it comes to angling politics are shore and boat anglers all in the same boat? *cringes at the pun*

I overheard someone in a tackle shop say that boat anglers shouldn't represent shore anglers!

I think any representation from anywhere is good for all of us.

Hi Oblickta,

I guess you could be reffering to me here as you were the only other person in the shop other than the manager and asssistant.

We were discussing the upcoming meeting with defra and I was being told how Tony Anderson and the NFSA were sorting this meeting out. Pointed out that I was arranging the meeting to be told that there is no way a boat angler could represent NE anglers. I would point out that that the shop owner did not step in here and disagree.

This set me thinking that there may be some animosity between boat and shore anglers I am not aware of. Certainly seems that way as far as the tackle trade is concerned. Are boat anglers in the NE a second rate sub species of angler and only shore anglers are worthy of note.

It certainly hasn't appeared that way over the last six weeks or so when I have spoken to shore anglers on Seaham Pier, Steetly Pier, Roker Pier, Seaton point, Boulmer beach, Newbiggin Rocks and beaches and at the Amble open.

No one ever mentioned that the two disciplines had this great divide...I personally thought that all NE anglers from whatever discipline had one goal in mind.

All I would say is it spoiled my day out fishing( dare I say it ) on the boat. I did leave my phone number with the shop so that "The beach anglers representative and Northumbria Sea Fisheries ministerial appointed representative" could get in touch with me after one year of attending the meetings and never having found him present.

I would also welcome some contact from the NFSA to confirm just exactly IF you are going to send someone to the meeting on the 4th March. You have had the emails...just seems no one wants to reply.

From a personal point of view I will be shopping elsewhere from now on , but my custom wont be missed because after all I am only A BOAT ANGLER.

Cheers
Dave

aye Dave that's what I meant! I believe the only chance anglers have is to stand together under one banner. The government want your money but they also want your vote, most MP's are terrified of losing votes. British elections have a history of poor turn outs and 5 000 000+ votes could make or break a government.

Dave I think we may well of had this conversation, I believe that the NFSA North East division has collapsed or is keeping very quiet about the most important issue currently affecting RSA?. With Angling unity being the new voice of angling I am told the NFS have signed up to the principal only. With the meeting next Tuesday, is anybody wanting to come up from Devon? as we appear to have no NFSA up here anymore?
Who is the voice of NE angler, shore or boat?? having attended the last NSFC meeting with you I can see what you are up against, one small voice.
Boat anglers not a problem, like many other guys I will go out when I get the opportunity. I hope we get more than the 15 anglers that turned up to the Portsmouth DEFRA meeting. Thanks for all your help at the Amble Open.

As it stands the the NE division of the NFSA have not been in touch.

I got a promise of attendance by Richard Ferre the chairman of the nfsa , but he can not now attend as a result of family commitments, but he promised he would find an nfsa official to attend.

It does worry me a bit that with a week to go I have had no further contact from the NFSA head office or indeed the local branch.

The meeting will take place with or without participation from a national body who claim to represent sea anglers.

As for the comments in the shop all I will say is I will be shopping elsewhere in the future.

Cheers
dave
