With roker pier look like been closed over the summer were on shields pier is best to fish for the mackrel.any numbers to marks to look for and weres best to park ypur car.cheers

IMO I would avoid it like the plague. The only time I'll be on there are first/last light, on the pollock and plaice hunt. Mid day will be bedlam, especially with Roker shut. If you've got transport there loads of places up the coast you can hit for a mackerel session.

I was hoping to give it a bash myself this summer for the pollock rather than the longer drive up north.

If its the macky your after mate why not just try the beach, I got all mine from the beach last year (Horden)

as been said, shields gets chokka in summer when macky is truly in and getting caught, between brigade hut and first gate can be very productive, also if there not been much rain, and water is clear, groyne can be ok as well also i have seen macki being caught just about every where on pier

Last year wasn't too bad after the initial two weeks of the macky season but the first two weeks was pretty packed as far as I remember, plenty quiet areas from the brigade hut up to the old second gate.
There is a car park at the pier head, 3 quid all day. If you don't mind a short walk you can get parked on Bents Park Road and Marine Drive for free.

If Roker is going to be shut I doubt I will be anywhere near the knackers up at the end of the pier! Sounds like I will be targeting plaice and Pollock again this summer... oh and steal the odd wrasse off Fishingmark ;)

yer ssp wasn't to bad last year, end chocker but ok up to the blocks and pretty quiet really on the lower marks. Might be a different matter this year if rokers shut like.

Ssp was mental at the end at the start of the Macky season but wait a month for the initial madness to die down. By the end of August / start of Sept last year the Mackerel were still there in force but not as as many people were there so it was ok.

Some good advice there lads.cheers.last year if i remember rightly it was early june when mackie started to get caught.if the weather continies the way it is they may be bit earlier this year.

For macky marks a would look on Google maps m8 Eyemouth and other piers in smaller harbour towns will chuck macky out as well as pollock ;-)

I was getting macky beggining of june kast year right through till september

On Shields pier they were really late, tried a few times last June for mackerel and blanked. :o It wasn't until July when any numbers turned up and even then IMHO it was still poor compared to past seasons, but like the lads say they can be caught anywhere the length of the pier when they are in.

Hello pete.just had look in diary and first bag of macky i got was 15th june off roker and wrnt down two day later and bagged up again.you never no we may get a early run this year.just have to wait and see.no doubt we will hear as soon as they start getting caught mate
