Plaice and Turbot

Planning to have a good go at catching some decent Plaice this year, but when do they arrive inshore ? I was led to believe they are more of a summer species ? I heard a good mark for them is the first gate at SSP.

Same question for Turbot ? Was planning to have a go up at Druridge Bay when it's the right time.

plaice should start to arrive from end of march time beginning or april, rag worm tipped with fresh peeler is a good bait and plenty colour in your rigs, try wishbone rigs these can work well. middens beach at high tide is a good shot for them.

there are already reports of plaice being took from over the west coast maryport and morcombe bay only small but its good signs.

turbot can be took from drudidge and warkworth they will come into feed on the sandeels when the sandeels come back onto the beaches around the back end of spring. best thing to do is go down on a big low tide and look for any likely looking holes the fish may come into on the flooding tide. use plain leads just enough to hold bottom and short casts. if you dont get anything reel in a couple of turns and let it settle back down.

i have also had plaice from king eddies and blyth beach aswel.

You need it calm and settled for plaice like you do for most of the summer speicies.

Another month or so before it's time to start seriously thinking about Plaice. Then we need a period of settled weather to keep the water nice and clear and they should start figuring in the catches.

I caught my pb north east Plaice (2lb 10oz) the second week in April a couple of years ago

That 1 week before the cr@p summer lol, I remember thinking yesssss if this keeps up the summer species be here before April, how wrong was that ha. I'm gonna try targeting Plaice this year, see how that goes, should be fun trying anyway.

I won my last club comp in march with 7lb of place best one was 1lb 8oz! Just got to find a good mark I say!

Yeah that's the week the temp hit 25 degrees than we had snow the week after then nothing but rain

I've had plenty of little ones off Horden at this time of year.

Meanwhile my old local beach (I used to live about 500 yards from this spot) at Eastney (Portsmouth) threw up a 5lber last week...
