sailed at 07 30 with less than a half a boat full thanks to those who let down at the last minute

any hoo travelled to some ground and got set up on a drift which if all went to plan would be a mile and quarter longwe managed about 3 drifts over this before breeze and tide made the drift far too fastin fact the turn of the tide killed the fishing

fishing was never hectic, but a few were there cod to keep about a dozen cod to put back about the same

whities were present too and some large ones

mackarel came and went thru the day some small some bigger

mackarel came and went thoughout the day

the picture is of a larger than life character with an average fish for the daySHOULD BE DATED SAT 20TH

Pleased you got a few Duncan and left the bigger one`s for next sunday,
seems to be a lot of anglers that let the skippers down at the last minute,
surely they must realise they have to make a living.

Bad luck Duncan, sounds like a hard day m8. Shocking the number of guys not turning up, seems to be happening a lot. Its time the Skippers started taking big Deposits, mind you, that is a Can of worms too.

its happening in a lot of ports.i can understand peoples situations changing quickly in the world we are in,but to leave things till the day of sail or 10pm the night before or not turning up is a bit off the mark

deposits too as you say bob is an absolute administration nightmare.

my guess is that skippers will shortly turn from being friendly easy going folks to being hard nosed business men.perhaps only dealing with established clubs, who often cant get bookings on the vessel they want

Why are deposits a can of worms?

Skippers need to take them these days. 50% of the cost for the day.

All Whitby skippers do, so why not?

If you use the boat a lot and you prove to be trustworthy then deposit can be waived, but until then, pay half up front.

What else do you book and not pay for on the day you phone?
2016 - Cod, Dab, Dogfish, Gurnard, Ling, Mackerel, Saithe, Scorpian fish. .

its mainly the admin side of it mark, dealing with perhaps 6 or 7 different deposits for the same trip waiting for cheques to arrive, then clear.then they dont arrive and punter says they were sent.

                  then theres cancellations etc

I understand Duncan, but no deposit can mean no show!

Last year we took bookings for our summer musical theatre school and didn't enforce our "deposit rule." Four failed to show, 25% of the total.

This year we enforced the deposit rule, all showed up today!

It is a business and a source of income, so it needs to be done.

yes mark you are absolutely right, and im sure after enough financial hurt and betrayal of old fashioned "book and turn up procedures" that skippers will be left with no choice but to move this way

personally i hope to live to see the day when no one can get book a boat with out putting some money up front

but that makes difficulty for last minute bookings

so the whole flippin show ends up spoilt for the many by a few

Last minute is a different animal altogether as long as there are places available.

On a different note completely- even I wouldn't fish in a shirt like that!!
