  • Riptide drummore

Booked a trip for last sat/sun with Onyer marks and fished with Andy the owner of Riptide . Not fished drummore for about 8 years so was lookin forward to hookin up with the one of the bushy mane . Anyway after the "longtime no see's bud" it was time to get afloat and hopefully among a few tope. The venue was the marks out of port Logan. So 4 of us fished the first day with fresh mackerel ,feathered on the way to the marks. Unfortunately it was a tope no show for any of the 14 boats afloat . Huss, doggies no problem, tope elusive. Anyway after a short deliberation over apre fish beers a few tactical changes were decided for the Sunday.Fish the pollack in the morning, hunt a few species until the optimum time for Tope in the afternoon. So dug a few lugworm and retired for the night! Same launch venue and off pollacking for the morn. Straight into the Pollack with plenty boated 3 - 5lb and a few about 6lb best 7.5lb all on the float method. Next species hunt - not disappointed . Anchor and drift fished and landed- Huss, doggies,Cod,Whiting, pollack,Coalie,Haddock,He rring,Mackerel,Launce,Dabs,Plaice,Wrasse and 2 types of Gurnard - brilliant. Next Tope - no show !! What did turn up was a bonus species- Common Skate 180lb in 100ft of water on a sandbank on light tackle meant for Tope with just a 6/0 0'shaughnessy at the business end. Well done Jason on playing the fish gingerly to the boat on 3 occasions, before any gaff could be set the fish dived and parted company with the line. Total 16 species, all fish returned except for the plump Plaice which was lovingly grilled on the bone under moderate heat and served with lemon slice and a cold can of Oranjeboom - lush. If ya haven't been to Drummore in south west Scotland - go. Ian Burret on On yer marks and Andy Wainwright on Riptide
