  • Wor Lass 27th Sept

Last night’s, or early this morning’s depending on how you look at it, works night out meant that this sloth was never going to be out early today. We locked out the marina shortly after the bottom of a spring tide, just the two of us today as the skipper left for uni. last week.

Today we left the wrecks for the boats fishing in the competition. Our first drop was over the rough ground at Cullercoats which was almost fishless and prompted a move to St Mary’ yellow Can.

Fishing improved considerably at the Can with coddling coming in on the first drop and steadily after that. Today was a day for quantity over quality. We had several double shots and must have had a hundred fish between us up to about 4lb, most went back. When it went quiet, a fresh bit of bait brought them back again until the fishing slowed while the tide turned then it picked up again.

At least the fish were bonny

We used lug, rag, white rag, mussel and peeler then when that ran out, a change to lures brought a last wave of success before time to call it a day.

Slinky grubs prove their worth once again.

Great stuff Kevin (especially the slinky grubs lol)
Those codling are the best I think , great fighting fish and around the 3lb mark perfect for the pan, clean and full of flesh

    Great report and pictures

    Cheers

Grand day out with plenty action, hardly time for a cuppa. If the fish hang arround over the winter, should be good on the beaches.
