  • Catch report "Grace" 16/7/16

We left the Tyne at approx 8.30am and headed North to the waters off Blyth but the forecast was so wrong with the wind at least double the predicted speed. Any thoughts of wrecking were dismissed as the wind strengthened but we managed to fish the inshore marks by deploying our drogue and using a flowing trace with a 10oz weight. From the very first drop we were all into fish and after a couple of drifts we had reached our quota. For the rest of the day we were throwing back fish from 3lb to 10lb and I feel the wind was actually an advantage as it worked our lures through the water. Probably the windiest day in which I've fished but also one of the most productive.Click image for larger version

Nice one Tony. I've never tried a drouge at sea to slow the drift, only an anchor! but I have used them from boats when trout fishing. I'll have to give it a try.

It looks like the prawns we called into action again.

Hi Arthur, when we have plenty of fish in our freezers we just take a few fillets home to top up or perhaps give to our friends and/or relatives. We dont stick rigidly to a quota but at this stage in the season we generally return most of our fish once the blue fish box is full.
