  • Derwent Reservoir

Being new to this whole thing and enjoying reading about everyone else's fishing trips, just thought I would let you know about a recent one of mine! Went up to Derwent last Saturday, was slighty cold, had a blinding day! had 24 altogeter, dropped about 10 too. The extra fish that Northumbrian Water are stocking are certaintly making a difference! (All on the fly of course!!!) All went back no problem. Will have to be having another trip up sometime! Tied a few nice new patterns which were working well (obviously!)

Most of the fish came on my now famous Dinky Do pattern!!! I also had a few on a Katie varient and a couple on a pearly cormorant. (If anyone wants any flies, just let me know). Most of the fish were coming between 30-40 yards out so weren't sticking half the time.

Unlucky sless, sounds like the casting is still an issue! If your casting right handed, and the wind is right to left as you look at it, you have to cast over your left shoulder or do what I do and face away from the lake and cast backwards or you and your clothes will just end up looking like a well decorated christmas tree! Im off fishing tomorrow, still unsure where to go however! fishing a comp next weekend at Lockwood beck so might have to go get some practice.

                Serious sniggering going on here

I got my shades smashed to a million pieces in Digital last year on a stupid night out to see Pendulum and haven't replaced them - I must!

                  thought it was DM's pattern!

                  30 to 40 yds out?

                      Dinky Do

Since the name came out, there have been a couple of flies under that name. Dave has his Dinky Do and I have mine. Dave's is a little nymph and mine is a 300mph fly. Whats wrong with 30 yard casts!? Most of the fish were taking on the drop of as soon as the flies moved.
