FISHING REPORT 12/5/09
It’s a real shame about these Cold Blustery winds. When the winds drop we have had some excellent hatches of flies and the sport on the surface has been excellent. Although still fishing well the winds have moved the fish down and made the fishing more difficult in terms of comfort presentation. Average fish size is around 2lb+ and there are plenty of 4lb+ fish showing, including some very handsome Brown trout which are well worth chasing. The fish are feeding actively and energetically in the top layers, and floating line tactics are effective with a variety of flies - including nymphs, lures and bushy dries. Damsels seem to be the most productive flies, although the biggest fish so far this month came to a buzzer.
A stunning 19lb rainbow was caught this week by Jonathon Murray of Carlisle on a size 16 black Buzzer. The fish took 20 minutes to land and after recovering was released back safely. Numerous anglers bave caught more than 15 fish in a session this week including Ernie Craster, Wayne Dent and William Shotton. Nigel hawthorn of Shildon caught 12 fish including 3 Brown Trout the biggest of which was 5lb. Stephen Carr of Houghton also landed a nice Brown estimated at 5lb. John Williams of Stockton caught a 12lb Rainbow on a Pearly Cormorant one of 7 fish he caught
The lakes are now open until 9.00 pm on an evening and and evening ticket is availablefor £8.
Flies of the week : * Small imitative patterns such as black Buzzer, CDC Emergers, Damsel Nymph, Bloodworm, Diawl Bach, Shipmans Buzzers and Hoppers are working best
