    FISHING REPORT 1/6/09

The good weather has produced some excellent fishing with spectacular rises on an evening. Some great nymph and dry fly sport using midge and lake olive imitations such as, buzzers, F fly, shuttlecock, PTN, parachute adams. Mayflies have also been taking fish on the lakes, this year trout seem to have hit them the moment hatches started. Very unusual as they often scare trout during the first days. Even sparse hatches have triggered aggressive takes to nymph and dry. Look for this to continue in the first half of June, with damsels becoming an increasing factor later in the month

Some big fish have been caught this week with at two Carp both over 19lb being landed by surprised anglers expecting a Rainbow. Peter Johnston of Peterlee caught a very nice rainbow of 16lb using a Damsel Nymph this being one of 6 fish he caught in total. William Patterson of Thornaby caught 18 fish in a frantic evening session using a size 18 Grey Duster his fly attracting interest as soon as it hit the surface of tha water. David Blackmore caught 14 fish again on the evening using Black or Olive Buzzers. Plenty of Brown trout are now showing with anglers regularly reporting catching Fish up to 5lb in weight

The lakes are now open until 9.00 pm on an evening and and evening ticket is available for £8.

Flies of the week : * Small imitative patterns such as Wicked White, CDC Emergers, Damsel Nymph, Olive Zonker, Black Spider, Shipmans Buzzers and Hoppers are working best
