i have been sea fishing for 45 years now last year i decided to try fly fishing after 1 year i am looking at pros and cons for both i have come to the conclusion fly fishing ponds pro's -- one of the big pro's is code of conduct no drinking ect- no running around for bait -comfort - clean no smells i have had a cloth in my bag never been used -clothes are nowhere as smelly--less cruel most fish are returned alive -a lot of venues have free coffee or have cafes on site-or have cabins where you can eat -big fish in my 1st year i have had 3 fish over 8lb 5 over 5lb -out of 26 outings i have only blanked 3 times mind some days i have had only 1 fish - -------cons --muddy this time of year- little bit more expensive than sea fishing---------------
sea fishing pro's--good exersise walking s/s pier -you can fish all night --you have not many restrictions on where you fish- you can if you have time collect your own bait- you have more time to talk and socialise unless you are in a comp------- cons a lot of fish die when you put them back ie dropped from a pier a lot of fish die when used as a ball by the chavs---mackie will be in soon and the larger will be out --crossed lines and bad moods--nowhere to have a gipsys on the piers--trying to get along the pier or pipe to get best position
all in all i am hanging on to both sets of gear roll on the plaice
old anglers never die -they just smell that way

Best of both worlds, I love the cod season with a passion, and when they've gone I look forward to warm summer nights with a dry fly on the fresh water

fly= pros light weight. cons =fly stuck in head, eye, back of neck, clothing, trees, grass, fingers, pants, mate, didnt get time to hit water.

sea = pros exercise, great crack, feelin of wellbeing when catchin, easy casting, freedom of where to fish as not limited to lakes, rivers, cheap, all year round fishing, no licence, species of fish wide, different spots ie sand, rocks, kelp, pier, skeers.
cons= none cos just being out is a bonus.........

crnt beat winter sea fishing id say it sorts a real sea fisherman out from the part time macrel angling. as for fresh water fishing its a stop gap for me ido it through sumer as theres no decent fish to catch in the sea off piers or rocks. not like big fresh water fish any way. its each to there on but i understand ya piont totaly wud never give winter sea fishing up NEVER. but love fresh water also now never thought i wud but its all the same realy the want for a big fish on the end ov ya rod

I had an op nearly 2 yuears ago and i had to stop sea fishing but switched to fresh and fly fishing. Have to admit i aint missed the sea but as others said "each to their own" and i would never say one was better than the other just different.
