  • South Shields (Kayak Lure Fishing)

Headed out bright and early this morning, and was afloat by 06:00, after only a couple of mishaps. Firstly realizing i had left the battery for my fish finder on the kitchen bench. Secondly eating to many chilies last night and frightening the life out of the cleaner at The Waters Edge when asking if i could use the nettie. Thirdly paddling for 200 yards and realizing i hadn't put my PFD on and having to paddle back for it. Anyway after all that i headed out about a mile and dropped a set of daylights to the bottom and was straight in to small whiting, hung up the boat rod and picked up the spinning rod armed with a zenith and a couple of shrimp attractors to make it a little more sporting. I manage about 20 all well undersized whiting i was hoping there might of been a few Pouting feeding with them but to no avail. After about half an hour or so i hit into what was obviously a better size of fish and by the constant rattle on the rod tip i correctly guest it was a mackerel. I was hoping is was above a shoal and dropped straight down again hoping there might be some Herring with them but only managed a couple of Launce. Things went quiet after that my drift had took my, as planned, down towards Marsden where i planned to head inshore and try for a few different species among the rocks, with the tide turning a good hours drift inshore should put my a good distance back towards where i had launched form. Nothing showed close in tried a multitude of lures HP's SP's metals but had no takes, i did see a good few Sea Trout jumping while i drifted some they couldn't have been more than 20 ft away from me. Paddled back in about 09:30 well happy with my 2 species to add to the challenge.
