  • Alverchurch - Pike

I'm currently working down Birmingham 2 days a week, on advantage of this is some nice freshwater marks with pike, perch and zander available to target, the down side is as I'm only down there 1 night, and head off at 04:00 then work till at least 17:00 I'm normally knackered and don't bother my arse. This week though, spurred on by Nathan's new additions for the lure challenge I made a special effort lol. I managed to pop to a local tackle shop and pick up a BAA day ticket (£8) and headed to a stretch of canal at Alverchurch where I had fished last year and had a couple of perch. On arrival I wasn't confident, the water was very coloured and there was a lot of leaves, twigs and other tree debris on the water. Fortunately after a brief walk along the canal the debris cleared making it fishable. I plugged away with various lures trying to replicate last year's catch and bag a perch on my lrf rod, but to no avail. After a couple of hours, I rigged up the bushy with a blue and black spinner, second cast, bang fish on. After a spirited fight a landded a nice little Jack.

The fish had a wound that looked like it had been hit by a much bigger fish, although it was only on one side ?

I fished on for a few more hours trying to get a perch but still no luck, maybe next week. I think I'll try the Coventry canal as there is apparently Zander in there as well, but it's a bit further to drive.
Happy to help, Keen to learn!

Nice fish Phil. And a proper freshwater catch at that. Better than something that's stuck in a pond. I wouldn't mind a go for pike one day. Think I best crack the sea species first though.
                All the gear, no idea.
