Put in a half day at work today after watching the weather all week. Had done my homework and knew exactly where I wanted to go. Proved to be a stroke of genius!!! Headed North and got to the mark for just before 5. Met my mate and we headed down. The sea was perfect with a lazy easterly swell and coloured water, the wind held off too! First hour or so was quiet with a few thumb size coalies. As it got dark and the tide turned, the excitement started!!! I cast about 30/40 yds out and put my rod in the stand. I turned away to talk to my mate and he shouted and pointed at my rod, which was about to get pulled in! Picked up the rod and started reeling and felt the weight of the fish. It really held the bottom and was nodding all the way in. It actually took line at one point! It got snagged up right at my feet and had a hair raising moment when the rottom bottom gave way! My mate managed to gaff it to lift it and as he did the hook fell out its mouth! A great fight and very lucky!! When I weighed it at the house it weighed just under 6lb. Re-baited and cast straight back out within minutes I was reeling in another fish around a 1lb 1/2oz. This continued for 2 hours with a total bag of 7 fish, the biggest around 2lb, with an estimated total weight of 14lb for the night. I couldn't even put the rod in the stand as there were constant bites, some of them huge!! Had to finish at 10pm as we ran out of bait. I think it would have fished all the way up though. It was manic, never had a session like it, and a great start to the season and easily my best ever . My mate had two size for about 3lb. Had to ring my other fishing mates when I got home to rub it in what they missed out on! Will be out tomorrow if the weather holds!!! Sorry no photos as my mobile phone is out of action.
