  • Decent one 7lb 2oz and one that got away

Seen a bit of movement yesterday and decided to fish over high last night. Fished a local mark I have never fished before. First cast codling 4lb, second cast all hell broke loose. Really, really decent fish, trying to get its head up as fast as possible, was diving down, then went to ground and couldn't get it up or moving again, eventually 80lb leader frayed and snapped. First thought leader knot had gone, thankfully was frayed and never went at knot or rod would of went in. Still disappointed but you loose some. 3rd cast decent codling 7lb 2oz. Managed another 2 just sized. All fish on the flood.

Shame on the one that got away but you can't be too down in the mouth to get some fish of that stamp this early in the season. Good session mate.

Lovely brace. Don't be so hard on yerself - that 7lber isn't a CODLING, it's a COD!......... was it a mark in the 'Lower Tyne Estuary?'
