Poland killed our ship repair until they joined the eu there government used to subsidised the repair yards, steel quality was rubbish but English shipping company's would just increase thickness of plate to compensate for wastage, also Forman had a lot of scams going with underhanded work.when they joined the eu the subsidy stopped and the polish prices came inline with our prices by this time our dry docks were on the demise/closed.
