lads fished blyth pier this morning, saw at least six weavers caught. for those unaware they are small light coloured ugly little devils about four to six inches long and can easily be recognised by a distinct black fin on there backs. please dont grab them to unhook as a very painful sting will be injected into your hand causing massive swelling and usually hospital treatment. they will take your spinner or feathers if your fishing for mackerel. seen one lad who got stung once and he was in agony. on a similar vein, where something on your feet if you or your kids go paddling of north east beachs as they hide in the sand.

they may go for feathers and spinners but a large majority of them are actually foul hooked i normally carry the forceps with me for that reason just to shake off the hook

try 14 last night nite on seaham pier, and every one went back safe, but also had coalies,pollock,1 whitting and mackerl, also there was a codling on a spinner they were still catching when i left half past nine..

If you do get stung, immerse the sting in as hot water as you can SAFELY bear. It breaks down the poison

if u grab sandeels kungfu style from waters edge as well ur bound to see them too....normally they leave a sort of marking in the sand when not ocvered by water ....there are two types greater and lesser....we get more of the lesser which is more poisonous then the greater....i guess you could ask your mate to **** on ur hand if things got that bad ...

one got me in my finger couple of weeks ago, finger tip bit pain but only for 15minutes then ok
even happen last year, i even used a rag to put round it but the little thing still got is
