ive have been practising this cast for about two weeks now and had a session the other evening and when using the pendulum cast it just kept flyin to the right so i went back to just dangling it behind me and whacking it but i went and had a casting sesh tonite and when i fianlly started to get used it i was bearlly gettin any further than when i just dangled it then i got a birdie and snapped off so i just packed up and came home i also need to reinvest in some new line and was wondering if daiwa sensor was any good also is there any reason that i am bearly casting any further or should i just keep practisng but if i practise will i gain more yards or not :confused::confused:please reply thanks

Relitively new here, so not sure on your equipment.
Could play a big part.

On as side note have u ever tried Off The Ground casting rather than dangling?
There are a couple of methods I have tried OTG casting, but theres one where the weight is nearer your feet than the tip of your rod, at a slightly open angle from which you can get good compression. Theres some good vids on youtube. Dave Docwra got a few on there.

Often depends where I am fishing to what method I use personally.

Casting instructor is the way to go. If you practice yourself you develop bad habbits which I have (and there a pain in the a**e to fix , where as if you get lessons before you develop bad habbits you should be fine and will provide a faster learning curve rather than trying to teach yourself

agree with the lads, see a casdting instructor before you get settled in with bad habbits, try contacting bob collins ( arc) on this site, Great lad and he will defo show you where you are going wrong, and get you the extra distance you want. Failing that, put a post in the casting section or go down to kirkleatham on a casting day, all great and helpful lads, you will get sorted one way or the other mate. but defo an instructor is needed

some may say old hat but i dare bet a lot of people wish there could cast like him.
John Holden Pendulum Casting - part 1 of 3 - YouTube

many vids on youtube about casting niel mackellow as well.best not to go to stiff on the rd you use when you learn imo.
bad time of yr to learn casting now i would rather be fishing getting baits in the water ,there are more marks in the north east that dosnt need a long cast opposed to other way.

Diawa sensor superb strong line and very abrasive resistant. Agree with the other lads on here regarding getting a casting instructor, definately the best way to sort out any issues and get that extra distance. you need to get your technique right first :)before trying all out for distance.

Unless your technique is sound (which I would guess from your posts it isnt )theres not much point in practicing , all you are doing is reinforcing your errors . You will save a lot of time ( and line ) by getting a lesson or 2 from an instructor who will get you started in the right direction either by showing you the basic otg ( the basis of the pendulum) or depending on your ability any corrections needed in your current cast . My offer still stands btw .
Diawa Sensor is a decent line but not one id use for distance work as it is thick for its breaking strain.

I have been trying for ages to pendulam cast and still fail. Luckily due to my size i can cast out an ordinary over the top cast a good distance.
Mind when you see some of the old boys hoying it out with the pendulam i wish i could pick it up.

Mick.

Does arc give lessons? Me and two of my mates are up for some. Don't mind paying to make worth ur while but can't seem to get the distance. Alway see small guys on the pier yarking it out and I'm 6"6" 26 stone nd can only get half the distance others do. All the gear and no idea comes to mind for myself.

yes mate Bob does give lessons, but i imagine he would want to see what your off the ground cast is like first before getting onto pendulum casting. Get in touch with him, good bloke and will Definately point out and iron out any bad habits you have

Didnt realise you had replied before i posted my previous post Bob mate, appologies

I learned to do it 15 years ago ,once you get it right you never lose it :D. And iam only 5ft 5 and always thought the bigger you are you can put it out but I do ok. But its just trail and error so stick it out.

niel kelland cast 300 yds wth ,37dia using 175grm lead he could of used the commonly used ,35 dia but did,nt .

think myself when learning probaly better off using thicker mono and make reel docile as feel of rod etc is most important not distance just my opion of course.
