Smiths Dock lost a big one!

Well lads me son went to smiths last night to use the last of our lug and others bait from weekend.

Got there and cast out for half 8, fishing tide down. good knock every cast but couldnt connect. Sitting on his box and he gets decent knock strikes in and a decent flounder on the end of his flapper taking a maccy and rag cocktail.

2nd cast resulted in a small whiting again on maccy and rag. few more casts few more knocks but no more fish.

Then last chance saloon put 7 lug up his trace on 1 hook and took 3 more lug and few rag bait elastic them together then bound to trace next to hook. (about 15 worms) short lob about 50 yards then a decent knock. picks up rod and goes mad must have been a decent cod as his SK3 was doubled over was doubled over, bringing it in and gets snagged up, eventually getting snag free after ten mins and then snagged up again. couldnt move it for at all tried for about 30 mins and still no movement walking up and down giving it line no joy. had to snap the line in the end. GUTTED no big fish but so close.

very unlucky exact same happend to me there not so long ago fish was just staying tight to the bottom got it out ov the snag 2/3 times but hung its self up good and proper, im off down to smiths within the next hour for a couple of chucks, shall let u no how i get on

nothing worse, esepcially when you knwo its a decent fish. good luck m8, seemed to be plenty of knocks on maccy and bluey last night

do you still need to climb the fence or is it open to the general public, i have been told a mixture of things.

no m8 not open still need to climb the fence i have found an easier way to get in though there are two ways i get in

1. got right to bottom next to marina park up and walk along then climb round both fences.

or

2. i found last night there was a enw fence put up a few weeks ago but as your driving down there is a slight hole in bushes on left hand side where new fence ends. go through bushes and there is a part of old fence that has been cut away nice and easy to get over. watch your od on trees could damange rod but much easier than climbing fences.

Unlucky on the lost fish. I have seen quite a few good fish lost this year, and lost a couple of good ones myself, , but suppose it is the risk you take when you fish over heavy ground of up a hight.

certainly is, tried every way to get it out after the first snag i though it was up was reeling fast as my feel would take it then my leeda assasin fixed spool give up and now makes a horrible grinding noise. think if i was using my multi i could of had it up and out

at least you got fish m8 sound like you may have got stuck on the shelf about 20 yards out but like coddy say its still out there waiting to be caught

a enw it would be snaggy there last night as was a low tide and it normally does take a few sets of gear a time for me. but after a few casts and no snags i was optimistic. but someone will take that fish in the next few days.

If you were fishing the right hand corner as you face the river then there is a double snag if you're casting to the right. If I ever cast that way and hit it I can get through the first one but get hung up on the next, I reckon its rope or a net as it's not solid and has a bit give but you never get out of it!
