could anyone give me advice on fishing with leadheads and shads they wer`nt in use when i last went boat fishing 20 odd yrs since but i`ve bought new tackle for 2005 and any advice please !!
with pirk - on their own - if a pirk is so heavy why are shads and leadheads so light ?? ( any info on web pages etc )
thanks finn;

Hi Finn,

Over the summer Codhead and I had a lot of success using a 10oz / 12 oz lead lead head coupled with a shad, large grub or twin tail. We basically used these like a pirk. We didn\'t fish together or over the same wrecks so if was quite a good test. If you go to traceacetackle on the web you\'ll get an idea of what was used...but some people make there own because of the prices.

Tried using a boom, lead weight and a flowing trace with a lighter leadhead but seemed to have tangling problems despite using swivels etc.... Used a hopper / flying collar type rig with a short trace length with some success but the 10 / 12oz method out fished this in my experience. Oh....also....orange and red always worked well for Cod.

Hope this helps mate.

Jeff.

Gary,

\"Senior\" member just means your just old mate.....TC sends out Zimmers to those who carry that signature !!

Yes when the macky are in they are the business...no wasting time taking the little b@star@s off daylights when you should be on the wreck!!

Gary...I\'m working on some new ideas for next year that you can make for us to try !!! We\'ll discuss Friday.

Hi Finn,

We had a brilliant year with 2oz leadheads and \"hopper\" rigs this year . Best results were from fishtek twintails , jerrys fatgrubs , and lumi shads . Normal pirks also hammered them with orange being best followed by luminous . There were some very good and detailed posts on the subject in the past , dig through them with the search system .

If anyone is after fishtek lures then try uk_hooks, they are the cheapest i have found in 3 years and always have them in stock. As Dave said orange,red and lumi kick ass.

i do a 10 oz leadhead with vmc 60 hook and twintail most colures and these are the dogs bollocks.2 oz ok but not for wrecking or charter boats .mine are straight down and no tankles just fish fish fish and more fish

Gotta agree with Gary for a change !!!!!!

Lead heads on hoper rigs or flowing traces can be a pain unless you\'re on a private boat with loads of space. It can be annoying to the person next to you to get tangled up all the time on a charter.

Jeff.

Thanks for all help will have to do a bit more research before buying any; but thanks codhead for the offer;

Same here Finn...seems to be a problem there.

Go to www. spottydogtackle.com

then Lures / Boat Lures / Trace Ace

It\'s the 10oz bullet heads you want to take a look at...that\'s what Gary makes...

Hope this helps.

Jeff.
