as its my birthday next month and was asked what i wanted as i have plenty of big heavy rods and reels i was thinking about some lighter spinning gear for the summer but i haven,t got a clue what to look for can any body help the advice i was looking for was really rod & reel advice especially rod what length of rod should i be looking for and even better can anybody recomend a good spinning rod
 
I got a Ron Thompson Titanium Sea Bass rod off my wife the Christmas before last..........lovelly rod, ideal for spinning. Might have a bit trouble getting a full house of macky up a pier wall with it though.
 
I got a Ron Thompson Bass rod also. A bit lighter than Tony\'s but great with a Maccy on or even a Whiting on the beach and at £25:00 new can\'t be bad. Almost forgot it is 11\'.

i have a shakespeare \"spin\" cost me £30 from I.D (shields) last summer....you also get a shakespeare hurricane fixed spool real wth it.
the rod is of top quality and i reccommend you go and check this one out. ;)
 
I\'ve had a number of spinning rods but the Greys one I have now is great.

3 Piece - 10ft for easy transporting or carrying, casts great. Cost £80.00 from ID.

I\'ve had mackeral and Pollock from the shore on it. Even took it on the boat last year with spinners and caught numerous mackeral over the top of wrecks.

Not recomended I guess but I used it to drop a 2oz pirk / spinner over a wreck and brought up a 4lb Cod no problem.

I hope no-one from Greys reads this or the Warranty will be invalid!!

Not sure if this is of any use to you, but my missus boughht me a shimano spinning rod. It comes in about four or five bits and can be made up in two diffrent lengths.

It comes in a travel tube so its great for holidays or just leaving in the boot. I think its called an S.T.C.

There used to be about £60. You can\'t tell its a multi section rod either.
 
i\'ve had a conoflex assassin for about 8 years, a bit on the pricey side for a spinning rod, around £100 ish.
its the most universal rod i own, i use it for spinning for macky off the pier, spinning and float fishing for pollock off the rocks, bait fishing for whitings when you can get away using 2 or 3oz leads, even use it when i\'m away piking. best fish i\'ve had on it is a 23lb 12oz pike,heres a piccy of it http://www.totalcoarsefishing.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10005/normal_c.jpg
and it coped comfortably, a really versatile spinning rod that i can\'t recomend highly enough.
if you don\'t want to spend that much there are tons of good quality spinning rods to choose from for well under 50 quid.

I agree with Sless, i have two Diawa whisker spinning rods and they have served me well, They have taken some stick from shore and boat.

The whisker has changed its name now, its called a EXCELER, i know this as i have just bought 1, there the same blank down to the ring\'s as the whisker.

The code if your interested is....EX1002HS. thats the 10ft version.
 
have to agree, that I just love my daiwa rodss, got a sensor and a whisker and there\'s
not a massive difference between them IMHO, except price. If you want it for sea work only, think about a carp rod. I\'ve got an 11ft daiwa senso carp rod and its the dogs doodahs of the rocks, will chuck a 20g dexter as easily as it does a 3oz pirk, it also doubles up as a great flattie basher, and a plugging rod if your in the vicinity of any bass
 
Totally agree with Micky. Got an Assassin built by Julian Shambrook last year, and its a fantastic rod, really versatile. Like micky says, you can use it for spinning, floatfishing and bottom fishing.

Agree with Micky. Had an Assassin for 2 years and love it. Light enough for floating and spinning, heavy enough to bottom fish for Whiting and Flounders with 2-3oz leads.

I\'ve also got a Daiwa Amphorus carp rod which is first class for spinning and float fishing, but the Assassin has more guts to it. Can\'t recommend them high enough.
 
Seen it Alan, its a bargain. Got mine built by Julian Shambrook as well. The build quality is fantastic...I\'m watching the price of it now lol ;)
