Ok anyone know when the bulk of the tall ships will be leaving the Tyne? i ask because i dont want to drive 10mile to fish shileds pier and find it packed out with people viewing the tall ships (nothing wrong with that by the way)

Am now finished for 21 days :) put some extra leave in so hoping to add some catch/nmon catch reports on the site soon.

As far as I\'m aware its next Thursday morning Richy,10am ish
Theres a couple moored up in Blyth today, directly behind the Steamboat pub

just til my snots freeze then I\'m off, probably bump into each other sooner or later,Jim (Willywetegg) fishes Blyth alot no doubt you\'ve bumped into him as well ;)

Bad news I\'m afraid, Richy........
When I was on the pier last Friday night, I got to talking to the pier watchman.
He said that NO fishing would be allowed from the pier next Thursday during the departure of the tall ships. The Port of Tyne are employing a private security company to police the pier on the run up to and on the day itself.
I\'ve read that the \"Parade of Sail\" as it\'s called will start at around 8:00am and it\'s hoped that all of the ships will have past the lighthouses by around midday.
However, tens of thousands of spectators are expected, so as to WHEN fishing from the pier will be allowed again, I don\'t know......I would suspect several hours.
Then, ofcourse,,,,,,there\'s the nightmare of trying to get down to the seafront and finding a parking space.

Just as a further pointof information:
When I was out on Tallisman yesterday, Andy told me that the harbour and river is to be CLOSED to all boat / ship traffic on the Wednesday night - excluding the Shields ferry - until after all the ships have departed the harbour on the Thursday.

I suppose it\'s a security thing.......terrorists have used suicide bombers on boats in the past and the Tall Ships race is quite a high profile \"target\".

Andy wasn\'t too happy about the situation........he had a charter booked for the Tursday, but he\'s had to cancell it.

I\'m on there quite a bit over the summer fishing for Mackerel etc,I rarely fish the bottom over the summer months off the pier, probably start again around Sept

Just out of interest theres a fireworks display tomorrow night at 22.00 at Blyth Quayside, you should be able to see them from most of Blyth but the best vantage points will be either at the harbour or around the beach area, pier or Mermaid cafe, they are setting them off from North Blyth next to the second windmill, this is to coincide with the Tall ships which are berthed at Blyth and the regeneration of the harbour and Ridley Park, theres also bands playing at the park as well, not sure who or what they are.
Might be worth giving Blyth a miss if you want to fish there or better still give the fishing a miss and come down for a look round ;)

I think i can take 2 days off not fishing the pier, saying that after the massive sea that was on friday it will take a few days for the mackerel to shoal up again.

Not sure what was on in Blyth yesterday (Sunday 24th) but I had planned on hitting the pier in the afternoon, struggled through traffic only to find everything down there closed off with cones and police guiding people into the main car-parks at the beach :-(

Tall ships in the harbour and some do on at the park.
Fireworks etc later on.
Maybe people making a day of it to get a good spot.

Hundreds heading up the river now, it took my 40mins from Newcastle centre to Gateshead centre with all the people and cars heading in for a look..should take 3 mins tops.

I was there today Richy - never seen you, though......lol

I hear that the organisers are expecting in the region of 2 million people long the quysides to view the ships whilst they\'re there......I think most of them turned up today :o :o :exclam: :exclam:
