I like the magazine. It brightens up my day looking at the articles etc. I also like the advertising. I considered buying a mag combo recently for £200 with a top make beachcaster.
I,m going to wait for next xmas,my missus can buy it as a pressie.
The cost isn,t to bad is £3 or £4. This is only a pint. I gave up the booze three months ago so i think its money well spent.
Now when i get my Okuma reel i think it will be a good deal.

PS Matchman you are not the only person i know working for Sea Angler. Theres a lad gets on the Heugh who,s mam still lives in Hartlepool. They call him Steve. He recently went to Norway for a weeks fishing with a group of anglers.
One was supposed to be Charlie who owns and runs an Angling shop on the Headland but he was bad and could not go. He has a top class boat as well and i will be going out on it one of these Saturdays.

Mick.

I look forward to receiving your articles for inclusion in Sea Angler...

besides the fact i dont fish as often as i would like, nor the fact i am buggered and my old rock marks are not accessable to me anymore i am not employed by sea angler to write articles, this is not a pick at you generally but the whole of sea angler itself, slowly over the years its gone down in quality, you want venues no problem theres thousands of them that sea angler has never touched on, im not a writer or a journalist, i fish for pleasure and that includes course fishing as well, i intend to abuse this buggered body a bit and try kayak fishing, no doubt i will do badly at this but hey im having fun, well till my first heart attack i will, over the years i have seen wirral written about twice, i may be wrong but that is all i remember, there is miles and miles of fishing on wirral alone

good or bad i still buy it
one month might be crap the next might be good
pay ya money and take ya chances

youre right sless its only £3 at the end of the day, think of all the hours enjoyment reading it on the bog you get for that lol.
what i wouldnt mind seeing is reprints of old articles from when i used to read it when i was a kid, like when the clyde was fishing for big cod,and when there was more fish about, just to see what things were like in them days.
also something more about match fishing the interview with shane russel and alan price was hardly in depth was it,or maybe they wouldnt say much?

In used to buy sea angler years ago, left the sport for a bit and only took it up again in the last couple of years, yes the lay out has changed but it is still a good read especially for the novice. Ive always thought it had too many adverts in it but hey theres adverts in The Sunday Sport aswell!

re the match listings,i too was dissapointed to find only matches upto middle of may in this months issue-i do not believe for one minute that they do not have ANY match dates that fall after May 13th.

Paul, why are you now posting as matchman "again"
also i noticed you have made a post using your penn525, why not stick to one or the other as it may confuse some on the site who dont know you are both penn525 and matchman.

About articles, for the right price i can do some around our part of the country.

The 'problem' magazines have is that they have to publish what's best for the readership of the moment, whereas somebody who's read the mag for a few months/years may feel that they've 'progressed' beyond that.

I don't know what the average length of time that somebody reads the same title for is, but I'd guess at 2-3 years. I know I was about that with FHM, Loaded, etc :)

I've spoken to magazine editors before and it is something that they're well aware of. Like anyone, they hate to see criticism, as they try to do the best they can. However, they have to please the majority and if the majority of purchasers and novices looking for answers, then the majority of the mag has to be that.

I don't buy magazines much these days, but recently bought Sea Angler, Total Sea Fishing and Boat Fishing Monthly just to see why some were moaning (on another website). I couldn't see how either of them were bad value compared to the other non-angling rubbish on offer.

As for ads, when I was young, the only reason I'd go out of my way to buy a magazine was when I was looking to buy something and wanted to see what the best deals were. You can do that online now, to a certain extent, but a lot of the magazine advertisers aren't web-based.

Magazines are still very much part of the UK angling scene.

good words mate fully agree

well i find foreign fishing boring to read about in mags matchman,i like watching it on telly but not reading about it,boat reviews bore me as well, john holden does too.
on the other hand i think shane pullen does good articles as he goes a bit more in depth, alan yates does some good articles, there is some good stuff in there and it has been a bit better recently.
the match planner is still rubbish though, can you pass this on to whoever runs it as its hard to plan a trip to a match when you dont even know its on.

hi penn525 or how many other names do you come under, you were once reporting bragging or whatsoever on fishing a comp on horden beach blasting three baited hooks out to the horizon fresh big live crab, big blacks bigger than anyone elses and i thought you did,nt like fishing at distance, well then no more no more sea angler magazines for me i thought there was a reason for it going downhill now i know

hi ya, paul you once asked if it was ok to come to casting comp at kirkleathem no prob, as far as i can it seems to me the first chance you have you want to knock people who like to improve there casting why is this ,most people i know who pendulem cast do it to enhance there fishing, why when you were fishing in match at horden why were you trying to hit the horizon, i dont knock anyone matchmen /rockhoppers everyone to there own
