I got a proper potato fork - wide with flat prongs - off e-bay a couple of years back for £20 (inc postage) It has proven to be excellent for bait digging.

Maybe Mr Codseeer can give us a report on how good that fork was or was not.

the one above as was mentoned aint that good from Turner Charles & Sons (Farmers Friends) Ltd
mine snapped after half a dozen times sessions digging ,bottom part exellent ,just shaft isnt strong enough for a digger that is out most the time

GREENS COUNTRY SHOP at Morpeth usualy has flat tined forks for around £20.00 I bought one a couple of years ago, and it certainly does the job.However they aren't the strongest of hafts (wooden), but if you take it canny the are excellent for digging lugworm.
By the way the shop is more or less opposite Morpeth railway station. Hope this is of some help.

there is nothing the matter with the 20 quid jobs from b and q, use one all the time, plus the shafts are metal.money well spent in my mind. i also have bulldog wooden handle ones and i prefer the cheap ones.

Re Greens of Morpeth, I bought one there a few years ago, removed the original shaft and handle, got a stainless steel shaft and handle fitted. Excellant for digging lugworm, whites etc.

I took our lasses today but cos the tide still going out when i got to Hartlepool did,nt use and bought some.

I will be putting it in the car for my next visit.

greggthe1, I popped into Greens next to the railway station at Morpeth and they have 3 forks in stock at £20.50 each. They aren't on display in the shop as they are kept in the warehouse so if you go there you will have to tell the guy what you are after.
See my earlier post re shafts and handles, all the guys I fish with have this type of fork. We actually shorten the tines and grind new points on, excellant for digging.
