Frozen Peeler Crab

I don't know anyone that has any at the moment but as a rule about a £1 a shot.
For one really big crab or several small ones, enough for a couple of hook baits if you bulk them out.

you will be very lucky to get any at the minute but it will not be long before the more expensive ones start creeping in from down south, expect to pay about £1 like lowrider says

Use mussel, cheaper and i reckon just as good.
I have never had any great sessions with peeler, yet done well with fresh black lug and mussel.

I have to agree, much prefer fresh lug and Mussel for fishing the open sea. Crab can still do well in the river though but so can worm on its day.

Jim.

as a collecter meself ,never do much catching on crab in the winter months, mainly becos the vultures have had them off me before i get a chance ,and i have done better on worm baits

peeler

me and a mate bought over 50 quids worth of peeler. the only fish i caught with it was coalies. so id rather stick with worm baits cheeper and more affective but thats me ;)

to be honest i would say that most of my best fish in the last few years have been caught on frozen peeler apart from my first decent cod which was from lynmouth alcan and that was on rag. i do have high regards for mussel though and a cocktail of the two can work very well:):)

cheers
mark:)

i can offer you a sea streak multiplier with original salt corrosion with a combination of beaky barbed hooks (various sizes) and a purple rod bell (special edition) what an offer.first refusal mate.

Peelers

Peelers

When i was a lad we used to get peeler crabs at the Blue Lagoon. Thats up near the Hartlepool powerstation and North gare pier.
We used to turn the rocks over grab the crabs and pull off the bottom bit of the leg. If another was underneath we kept them.
I did,nt realise then just how valuable a bait crab was. Personally i always preferred big ragworms. We used to dig them by the side of the Middleton pier. I recall one day trenching on the beach between the banjo pier and the Middleton pier and getting massive king rag. Those days the beach also had tons of runnydown One day there was a storm and i kid you not we were picking up runnydown out of the water by the handfull.
Moving on to today i still prefer rag. I recently dug some lovely worm by the side of the pilot pier (next to the fish sands).
The rag has gone up in the local tackle shop so i will take the fork with me on future visits. Just in case i catch low tide.
If i could get peeler i would use it but if not i will stick with rag and squid.

My opinion is that crab is a top bait. But I would not fish with it without a "back-up" bait. Lug and mussel are my must-haves, whilst razor & squid can also fish well dependant on conditions, and I've known the humble ragworm to outfish crab on occasion

would house hold insurance pay out this amount of money - IE - £1 each should your freezer break down - just a thought - has it happened to a tackle dealer - and how would an insurance company estimate costings ???

i prefere fresh peeler during summer for cod and fresh or frozen for october /november

i find the fish dont take them after then just my oppinion.
i use mussel / rag / lug / runnydown /squid / razor and on ocasions macky after and during november for all fish
targeting cod id use mussel / lug / runnydown coctail seems to work if there about
they will take it .
anything on some trips works ' some times cant tempt them lol
