There's a fantastic analogy which puts the existence of modern man into perspective - it's got something to do with if the universe was created in 24 hours. Then from 12:00 am to 02:30am something happened etc. from something O'clock to a bit later another amazing thing occurred and eventually we appeared no thicker than the skin of an apple. I may have mixed my analogies but you get the drift - I'll get the 8 year old to google it up - he'll appreciate the light and fresh air.

Can I just say one more thing please

Speed of Light

I explained to a young friend of mine that if someone was on the nearest star to us with a big telescope or git mental eyeball and looked at our planet they would be able to watch the battle of Hastings due to the time it would have taken the light from said barney to reach the observers eye

One more

Supposedly by maths and mechanics and biology the way atoms disperse over time means that there's at least one atom that once lived in Queen Elizabeth the Ginger, floating around in your house - might have got that one a bit wrong but where there's smoke

Mods can we have a special cosmic area please

Whooohh...

That edit was weird.....

Dunno What happened...

Changed before I done it.

Must be a lightey thing

the 'challenge' might be getting past customs on the way back from, err... sea trials (not guilty m'lud)

the way I heard it it, carbon cycles and all that is that we've all drunk at least a teeny little bit of Lizzy's wee at some time or other

When you look into a night sky you see the stars because of the light which travels from them to you.
Now it takes time for light to travel here, so what you are doing, is seeing the stars as they were in the past.... the amount of time it has taken for the light to reach us - and the further away those stars are, the further back in time you are looking.
Now........ you are seeing a star that is (say) six thousand years ago, imagine somebody on that star - looking at us. They would be seeing us as we
were six thousand years ago............

Which of those two is "now" ???:confused::o:confused:
