Great name - but is it a great rod. Are they any good for fishing the open shore
when the weather is fairly calm? (Want to be sure before spending 150quid)

Any advice ? Cheers.:confused::)

not sure about this one as i have never had one,but i have been told the old ones were the best. as for open shore should be okay on the beaches i would think,i have a century tip tornado lite and they are a class piece of kit and can throw a lead a long way and can handle the rivers and beach work no problem:D hope this helps in some way or not:D:D

Century Tip Tornado Light - that's an even better name. Thanks for the pointer - I'll have a search around.:)

hi i owned a flattie fanatic and thought this rod was great iv pulled mackerel in 4 at a time on this and it copes well also had a codling bout 2lb at st marys whilst wrass fishing and was great fun i would highly recomend this rod also you would now pick 1 up at 100 pound m8

Cheers mate. Since you mention it, how is wrasse fishing at St Mary's. Are we talking float-fished ragworm? In the summer when it's calm?:)

Hi Ross how are things darn sarf mate lol. If you are wanting to use it for a bit of general beach fishing they are fine. As Davey says they will pull Wrasse in and Mackerel four at a time. If you are wanting it just for flattie bashing I think they are a bit on the stiff side, a half decent Carp rod will see you fine for that and at less than half the price.

Jim.

Cheers Jim - hope you're well, mate. Darn Saaf ain't too bad - I ve started catching tiny little perch out of dirty canals to get my fishing fix.:D Not the same though.

Hopefully back to the land of Brown Ale and bad defending for a week soon - just in time to miss the cod. Good job I'm a specialist rockling angler.

Thanks for the tips...good stuff:D

As to a rod - I've just bought a Shakespeare Salt Flattie...haven't used it n anger yet but can't wait - casts 1-3oz

yeah I was thinking of a salt flattie, so when you use it a report would be good thanks. Looking about tho seems like canny bit of kit for price so may just get one anyway :p

Got to say, for flatties I'm using nowt more exciting and expensive than my spinning rods, just cheapy Shakespeare combo's with reels a quarter of what you're talking about price wise.

In my teens I used a bamboo cane with a big nail whipped on the end (barb cut in with a hacksaw) to spear big flatties on S/Sluice beach in the summer - yes, not very sporting, but still interesting and enjoyably, harder than you think...

They're not far out and much more fun on a pair of light rods or a single if it's nice weather and you don't mind wading out to a sandbar in your shorts. My dad back in the 1960's used nowt more than a handline from Warkworth beach and there's old home cine-film of the fish they caught.

i just fished normal m8 but lighter using traces with a longer hook length using rag worm hoyin into the gully think its called crisps gully also had them off the front near the big post.

Maybe it's best to keep it silly-simple...

I emailed Mike Ladle - the guy who wrote "Hooked On Bass" years ago (quality book, highly recommend) - cos he used to fish the Northumberland coast years ago and he said that he sometimes lay hooks baited with ragworm on the sand and just allowed the tide to start coming in over them. Sometimes the flounders
would take it in only a couple of inches of water. He recommended Budle Bay - somewhere ive never been.

It's always so tempting to cast as far as you can, isn't it. Or is that just me?:D:o

Talking about old flattie rods are the best, I've got a century scratcha. Has anyone everused one of thes as I've never had it out of the bag yet. Was gien it for selling a load of gear for someone and it's in immaculate condition.
