Smiths Dock

Does anyone know if you can still fish from Smiths Dock in North Shields?

Used to go there quite a lot around 3 or 4 years ago and have pulled some decent Codling out of there. Just wondering if it's still accessible or even there for that matter as I've not been over that way for ages.

After fishing for the first time in around 2 years, taking the kids fishing on the Tyne at Scotswood last week I've been bitten by the bug again and want to start venturing out again. :)

High Shore is right next to it tho (little bit of Prom opposite Royal Quays marina)....safe little mark and easy fishing too ;)

Is that the little prom just after you cross the loch gates at Royal Quays heading towards Smiths Dock? If it is I've fished there on numerous occasions. Like you say, it's easy fishing and safe, but it never quite produces the same results as you could get from the tip of Smiths, at the entrance to the dry dock nearest Royal Quays. Had some canny fish out of there, including two 4.5lb Codling.

yes it is

but like you say I've never had too great a success there in fairness - always been very hit and miss for me although there are members who've had some really good bags of Cod from there

Do people fish from the Fish Quay do you know? And any idea what that little beach behind the Fish Quay is like?

If you mean the beachy area that goes from the old wooden Lifeboat jetty to the black middens then I personally like the area...good easy fishing with eels, flatties, Cod, Coalies etc etc coming from there

Used to big rag worm there next to the jetty never dug there for about 3 years now but never fish it wound'nt mind givin it a go.
