what the?!?!?!?!?

Thats why I dont keep whitey any more mate the really bad ones have them in the flesh of the belly. They dont harm you but it puts you off. Here's a link which will tell you a bit more about them and how the fish get them.

Round Worms in Fish

Already said but its common, loads of fish have worms like that, you get the odd one in the flesh sometimes, shows up as a dark red spot in the flesh.

Thats very interesting guys. Most of the whities i catch have guts like that. I always gut them quickly and inspect the flesh. When filleted i cut belly flaps off and freeze any fish before i eat it. I was told the freezing kills any worms left. I have not been ill from any i have eaten. It just looks horrible when you opren the whities up.
I have never seen this type in infestation in any cod i have caught.
Mick.

Wonder why it's always the whiting that are riddled with worm and not cod. I ve had flounders that were swarming with ticks around the gills and fins too. Nasty.:o

Cod do get worms in 'em...seen plenty Cod guts last summer and some have been riddled as well....I think the difference is there's much more to scoff on inside a 6lb Cod than a 1lb Whitey so they tend to not infest the flesh as badly
