Blyth Pier

New member - started fishing again after pressure from my daughters. Tried the pier 5ish - 6.30. this morn. Really testing conditions strong SE wind. Lost 5 sets of gear a hat and a head torch - no fish. Anyone go any spots suitable fo kids? now they're fishing I'd like them to start catching !

Hi mate, welcome to the forum! Blyth pier's not a bad place to start, although I'd wait for calmer conditions to take the kids on than we had last night! They can catch little coalies right down the side of the pier, and there're flatties & little codlings usually around too. I'd say with kids it's best to get them catching something, even if it's small stuff (which you can show them how to put back) as they'll soon get bored if they're catching nowt!

Take then to the river at Blyth.
Plenty of safe spots and use two hooks and small hooks and you will usually get something

welcome to nesa mate new member meself try giving the rat house at sunderland the bottom corner is quite a good shot dont need te cast far either plenty of whities there on the old mackeral.

Hi Gary and welcome to NESA. Have a look in the shore fishing section, there is a sticky at the top about places for disabled people to fish, most of them will be suitable for young ones mate

the road that take you to blyth pier from the beach.

dont turn into the pier car park, stay on the main road, head north towards the town centre. you will pass the ridley park hotel / pub on your right, then a big park, take the next right after the park. stay on that road and it takes you to the south side of the harbour. the jettys are all new and safe to fish, the bottom is clean and you should loose any gear.
you can either fish at the start of the jetty, next to the big silver railings were they keep the lifeboat, or drive up a bit, over the small roundabout (big statue piece of crap on the right) carry on driving up that road and you have the main harbour, where you can fish out of the back of your car if you wanted.

you can get some nice cod when the sea is rough and the fish have been pushed up the river, you also have the chance of some really nice flatties, stinking eels and coalies. the kids can try just down the side for small stuff.

2 hooks and a rolling lead with rag or lug normally work well

if you want to try a change in the future, you can go over to cambois, drive towards the pier over the mud track next to the big orange storage tanks, there are a few jettys over there that you can fish off, i always got stonking big flatties when i was a kid over there off the north jetty.

both sides of the river are safe to fish as long as the kids dont stand right on the edge as there are no railings, but the edges have big curb stones or timber sleepers on them.

me and a mate tried a few marks today and ended up in the river.
i blanked (fished big hooks for monster cod ) my mate was using smaller hooks and got a few small coalies, a rocking and a crab lol

rag was the bait they were taking
