Used to love fishing off the groin years ago but been a few swept off over the years.Been told security has clamped right down now and what used to be a friendly "on your way" has now given way to gear being confiscated and legal action being taken.

Just after Christmas there was a note in the echo that trespassers would be issued with a £500 fine, this I've heard wasn't an idle threat either.

As for confiscating gear or otherwise, no, that's theft plain and simple.

I also thought it sounded a bit over the top about confiscating gear.Just the banter you get chatting to the lads fishing the prom.Probably right about the heavy fine but wouldn`t like to put it to the test.

its true about the fine's lyk.dave_c's girlfriend works with two people who got fined 500 n they got court the 1st day the new law come in.madness

Confiscating equipment/belongings is NOT legal, I'll have to hunt it out but this was discussed on some Urbex forums when security were trying to confiscate camera's etc.

re: confiscating fishing gear etc

Found the post on the urbex forums, they're obviously on about photography but it applies as far as I know to anything (key point to this is in bold):
Security guards do not have stop and search powers or the right to seize your equipment or delete images or confiscate film under any circumstances. In some circumstances, the police may grab your film or memory cards but they are still not authorised to delete any images. After all, if you've committed an offence the images would act as evidence, and if you haven't broken the law, the images are innocent.
