Amble Pier

Just to let everyone know that because of the crap being behind left by anglers, the powers that be are seriously thinking of banning fishing from the pier.

So cos of a few scruffy, lazy ba****ds, we're going to lose a very good venue.

I do hope they're proud.

It always seems to be the case, the minority spoiling it for the majority! If the harbour commission or council could send someone down and produce a few on the spot fines to persons responsible I think that would be a better course of action rather than banning fishing straight away. The message would get through very quickly if a few irresponsible ar**holes were fined and we wouldn't end up losing one of the best big fish marks on the Northumbrian coast.

Graham.

Unfortunatly it seems to be the way of many an angler nowadays. I was at cullernose point last week and what a tip it was. Its all down to anglers as this marks about a mile away from the nearest house. I used to be against a licence but if it got rid of the lazy tw@ts that wont pick up there rubbish then my mind would change straight away.

Cullernose is another popular big fish mark, all it takes is a carrier bag for all your rubbish and put it in the bin beside where you park your car, this is beyond a lot of anglers as you say and there always seems to be loads of anglers shi*e there.I fish it regularly in the right conditions in the winter, my brother had a 12lb'er of there in January.
Did you get anything when you fished? Was out last night with some friends and we had bass and fresh run cod in August!

just come across this one when we arrived saturday there was rubbish but it had been bagged and left as if there was some kind of council worker that comes along to tidy up etc we took all our rubbish back with us i loved the pier by the way carved grooves for ya rod to sit in also but the pier lights didnt work lol

rubbish

rubbish

its seems to be the same all over the fishing scene now and its not only the rubbish but the peeing and sh****ing at popular marks like the rat house shields pier and the walkway These people are just VERMIN and eventually going to spoil it for the decent anglers everywhere, maybe the licence is the way to go

Your probably right Bob, problem is though, we all buy a license and the scumbags don't bother. They won't care about getting caught, they don't care about anything else, so we would lose out again mate. When they get pulled they will give a false name or none at all and what will happen to them? My bet would be, absolutely nothing, same as happens to most of them now :casstet::casstet::mad:

i think there more worried about the pier falling into the water and someone claiming against them so they found an easyer way to ban the fishing. i DONT agree with people leaving rubbish but its time they fixed some of the piers (Blyth too)

I was asked about this by our old sector manager in the Coastguard as some numpties had been casting at the boats when they were going in and out. I know it's a pain in the proverbial lifting your gear out as the boats come and go, but anglers should respect this as well as taking their rubbish away. It just brings into disrepute our sport and may give NE and the JNCC more sway when they hear other users complaints about anglers when it comes to MCZ's

Totally agree with both of these replies. The litter problem appears to be getting worse and its not just on the piers. Everywhere in Britain now seems to have a litter problem. The throwaway society and it all begins in the home. Kids simply aren't taught to put litter in bins or take it home with them anymore. To be honest, I can't see it getting any better.

Tony,

Sorry for the delay on getting back to you on this. I asked the question about this at the SFC meeting last Tuesday.

There are several councillors on the committee and the closest I could get to a comment about the pier is that there were discussions last october about the mess however the problem is now the damage to the pier caused by the floods and it will be closed for the forseeable future as a dangerous structure.

Recent surveys show the damage to be far greater than first thought

The insurers wont pay out (act of god)...and attempts are being made to get EU funding for rebuilding.

Bit vague but the best I could find out.

Cheers
Dave

i know this might seem a bit stupid and it certainly dos'nt excuse anglers that leave rubbish on the pier, but if the council installed a few rubbish bins on the pier, i think that it would go a long way to solving the problem.

I would agree Paul.

The problem is that whilst tourists littering the beach are seen as an asset to Northumberland in terms of the money they spend ...anglers are not viewed in the same way. Its not an excuse for littering just an unfortunate fact of the way the councils view angling.

A good example would be after anglers were highlighted for leaving a large amount of litter on the EMS beaches I discussed this with the EMS manager and we came up with a proposal that the council provide bin bags for the up coming Northumbria open and arrange collection after the event.

All arranged...but did the bags turn up ...NO.

Tony,
I was unsure if the pier had actually been closed or was about to be closed. Seems the second one is the most probable outcome. I actually visited the pier last sunday but using my unfailing sense of direction managed to end up on the wrong pier for a long distance view :(

Cheers
Dave

Having observed the 'litter' problem for years and raged about it on this and other forums, I've noticed three distinct sections to the 'Litter League'

1. Sea anglers are by far the worst offenders.

2. Bait-fishing 'Trout Men' are next.

3. Coarse anglers are third.

4. But bottom of the litter league are fly fishermen. You seldom see litter at a 'Fly Only' venue.

And, I practice all three methods throughout the year.

Might sound daft, but the problem with putting bins out is that it encourages people to leave their litter rather than take it home.

to be honest the councils are hardly going to do anything even if the license is returned there wil still be s***e all over the place. The amount of crap you see lieing around is unreal. On occasions i'll cast out and bring in crisp packets and placa bags up:mad:
there destroying our spots and when the council do act they just ban fishing there all together
