Well I will add to this. Most boats sub 24' nowadays are heading down the Outboard route. My outboard gives me 1.25nm per litre at a steady 18 knot cruise. As for servicing mine gets done when I get the boat out for Antifouling. My outboard needs a dealer service every 3 years, but I get it done...

For what is costs I use the pre cut lengths that can be obtained from the big auction site, its a lot stiffer than welding rods and keeps its shape. It is actually a high tensile Stainless Steel wire. 200 lengths can be had for less than a tenner. Sean

People dont fish for them, The late Dave Brown was pioneering this a few years ago around Bridlington and he also did it further north. They are there but no one bothers as in the North East, a freezer full of fish is whats required. Sean
