    Backup outboard

I had a 4hp Mariner outboard for my 645. It was a long shaft version that lived in a locker on polystyrene blocks next to the liferaft and could be lifted out and fitted to a fixed bracket on the stern. Watch-out that it needs to be stored upright or lying on one specific side to avoid oil...

    Sunday 19th Jan Amble

Good try. You’ve learned a bit more about boating at the same time as learning there were no fish there. :) I like to anchor and cast big smelly baits held fast on the bottom when poor vis and winter colour is still in the sea. The boat will swing to point into the wind and you'll get some...

First trip of 2025 - not a great success

That’s a difficult start to the new year, but it can only get better. Down at the RQ the ice covered most of the water and there was no one brave enough to break tracks through it on Friday. Tight lines.

    Introducing Myself

Good luck Mike. I appreciate someone investing their time and effort supporting the site and hopefully building it back to its former vibrancy.

    Last trip of the year?

Well done to the pair of you for squeezing in one last trip, the weather forecast looks a bit strong for as long ahead as I’d trust it. Thanks for taking the time to post the reports through the year, they’re appreciated. Best wishes for 2025, hopefully you’ll both have a cracking season with...

11 Aug - south from Amble

Top marks all-round. The report was a good read with the lows and highs of fishing as well as lows and highs of owning boating. The rag-worm lads must have been gutted not to get out, but it’s better they had engine problems in the marina that out at sea. Your wrasse are so colourful they’re...

    Amble 1 August

Yet another interesting report Adrian. You've landed some very colourful fish recently, far better than the few beginner's-sized codling I've managed. Last year we saw a trawler go aground in the river and gunning his engines just threw up a plumes of sand in frustration without moving him...

    8th July

Thanks for the continued reports, I've enjoyed reading them as much as you seem to enjoy the fishing; they’re appreciated. You’re getting a lot of variety up there and the quality of the fish looks great too. I’ve not been up to Amble this year, the photos remind me of what we’re missing...

    Weekend weather

It looks OK to me, maybe a little wet. The wind should allow a good drift speed and not give much swell. Good luck.

    Flat as a pancake today

That's a good bag of fish, well done. We haven't seen the dolphins for a while, I wonder if they are all up your way.

    Penty of macky 9 July

That was an interesting report we won't see very often combining the variety of a day’s fishing, wildlife and pulling the birds. Well done on the rescue, nature can be cruel. Haddock round here are rarer then the rase subalpine warbler; I’d like to see them make a return and show up in the...

    First Report in a While

I’s been a while since I posted, mainly because I don’t fish as a much now but still enjoy looking in here to see what’s new. Here’s something in return to keep things moving. I headed out to the 3-mile wrecks today, which took a little longer getting there than with the last boat. Fish were...
