finnished night shift 7am friday morning, quickly called home got changed and grabbed my fishing gear, battled through the rush hour traffic on the A19 and arrived at hebburn marina at 9-30. fished the full flood tide using lug, rag and frozen runnys (i still had 3 live crab left but decided not to use them and keep them for next session, just had them out for a walk and a drink !) anyways the going was slow but did manage 2 cod the best spot on 3lb, still an enjoyable session, both fish on frozen runnys.
decided to fish the night tide friday night after i dropped our lass off for her night shift at 10pm. arrived at hendon prom around 10-15pm the sea looked perfect and was screaming cod. fished 2 hours and absolutely nothing, lots of small weed in the water which was a pain stopping the shock leader knot coming through the tip eye every cast. baits used rag lug and frozen runnys (still didn't use my 3 live crab) decided on a move and went to roker to fish the beach between the piers as i knew quite a few fish were caught there the previous night, again very slow going only got a decent whiting and a flounder, same baits used (still just had my three live crab for a walk)
still had loads of bait left so tried hebburn marina saturday night on the flood tide. did a bit better this time 4 cod all over 2lb the best going 2lb12oz. got 1 on frozen runnys and the other three on the crab i'd been nursing, think i could have had more fish if i'd had more fresh crab.
all in all three enjoyable sessions no monsters but no blanks either. doesn't seem as many fish in the tyne as there was a few weeks ago (although that might be down to not having many live peelers for bait) but the average size is much better at over 2lb.
