Looks like a good piece of engineering work, but even though he makes it sound easy I don't think I'd be trying it on a new reel. I assume its a tournament casters thing & would make little difference in the "real" fishing world.
Pehaps one of the casting lads could comment?
i have 5 or 6 reels done this way one is a penn international 975 others are abu's they are more for over grass casting but i do use them for fishing , only the teeny weeny handles are a problem when fishing (they tend to get them on a casting reel so the handle does not get hit mid cast and engage the gears ) as you have to pump the fish all the way in if its more than 1/2 a pound
