A couple of days out

Fished SSP on 1st July and set up on the 42 mark. Loads of macky bashers having a go further down but saw very little caught. Put the big rod out with rag/crab/mackerel in various combos hoping for a Plaice but nothing doing. That rod produced a couple of decent Whiting and a size Dab, which I thought was a Plaice on the retrieve I must confess.
Fished float at various depths with rag and mackerel but only a couple of Coleys and a Pollock on that, best around 3/4lb.
Most interesting was a bit of LRF style work down the side with a small paternoster rig and tiny pieces of bait. This produced a string of Coleys and Pollock up to around 1/2lb which were great fun on the ultra light rod. Then a sharp bite had me holding on as the little LRF rod took on an alarming curve. The culprit an eel of around 1lb (see pic) which led me a merry dance. Not what I expected.

Today 2nd July I had a run up to Craster to chuck some big Crab and Mussel baits around in the kelp south of the town. Fished 1 down 3 up but to my surprise not a bite. Never mind a nice day to be out.

Canny session on the the pier mate. If you drop back down the pier a bit from the 42 your float and lrf fishing will probably get you a wrasse if you're after something different as well as the usual coalies and pollock. There are also plaice to be had with the big rod too.

Forgot to say I saw some bonkers behavior from the macky bashers. One bloke stood up on the wall swishing a set of daylights about with his rod in one hand and a beer in the other. Numerous crack-offs too, which must be a dear do with a full set of flies on. Also people taking under size fish which I never like to see. They will get fishing on that pier done away with.
